The have® construct is trademarked communications curriculum developed by Kristine Schwarz designed to help individuals, couples and families communicate better.

The fundamental definitions:

1. To hear – to listen to someone or something; to be told something; to gain knowledge and information; to listen to with attention; to receive communication.

2. To acknowledge – to say that you accept the existence of something; to recognize the status of; to take notice of; to tell or show someone that something has been received.

3. To validate – to confirm the validity of; to recognize, establish, or illustrate the worthiness or legitimacy of someone or something.

4. To empathize – to demonstrate understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experiences of another; the ability to share someone else’s feelings.
